NEW YEARS EVE - Blues Night with the Wild Prawns - FRIDAY 31st DECEMBER 2010

The Wild Prawns are an occasional band.

They first got together a decade ago for a new years party and have been playing together on and off since in between the band members other gigs.

While at heart a rock and roll band made for dancing they also play the blues, and for good measure throw in some jazzy stuff. They are a Somerset based band with one ringer from Australia via Woking.

Steve Wilcox, their itinerant singer, was formerly a lead singer with The Rivertones (Tauntons’ own barbershop chorus) and now sings the blues from Chicago to Copenhagen, and more regularly at the Spice of Life blues nights in London.

Richard Gardner, lead guitar and raconteur, has a regular gig with the Lazy River Jazz Quartet; he also plays with Bryan in his Quartet and in days of yore played with The Clips and Tongue and Groove. Oh; and on occasion he throws in the odd vocal harmony.

Bryan Gunning plays lots of saxes and even a flute. He has his very own eponymous jazz quartet, but is equally at home playing funk and honking the blues.

Roly England is bass player and entrepeneur, and plays anything from jazz to bluegrass. A former member of Lazy River and too many bands to mention his aim in life it to discover what bass players do.

Ron Keeley is drummer and Oz ringer. His current band is the Woking based Crown Jewels, named after the pub where they, ahem, rehearse. In his youth he was the wild man of Radio Birdman and is even inducted into the Australian Hall of Rock’n’Roll Fame. Ask him nicely and he’ll show you his Aria.

For the Tournado’s No 1 gig on the 16th October the Wild Prawns will play two sets of blues, that will take you from Kansas City to Chicago, with the odd side trip to New Orleans.
